Experiments in Tranzending

Tributes to the acclaimed artists through Zentangle Method.

As a young man in my Twenties, some 40 years ago, I got fascinated by the then Art scenario in my country, India. Recently I tumbled upon  my scrapbook of those days with Newspaper and magazine cuttings of the paintings of the acclaimed artists of that period. I must say, I was extremely pleased.

Fast forwarding to today, as a 'Zentangle artist (proclaimed by the media)', and a CZT, an interesting thought crossed my mind. Why not offer tributes to those artists by using tranzending method ? In other words, merge Zentangle and ZIA...?

Here is my first experiment highlighting part of a painting by an artist Mr Naren Panchal. Original, and the experiment are presented here for your embellishment..

Hope you like the experiment.

Last Drop

T H E    L A S T    D  R O  P. . . . .

I had written this poem some 40 odd years ago. The context, if explained, may help in appreciating the content. The country was reeling under an Emergency rule, and the over zealous family planning program was on in some parts of the country. Under such a background, an eighth child arrives in a family.....Read on.
Frugality,
Self imposed austerity
demanded sacrifice.
I did not mind,
though reluctantly, for
the brats you begot
and could not feed.

But,
it was too much
when you brought in
the eighth heir
to your poverty last week,
in your fifties....
I can not remain silent.

A neighbour had whispered,
and now,
I gathered courage
to ask you,
"Haven't you finished
your last drop, yet, Dad?"

New Tangle 'PIZZA'

Nested Hearts..

I am happy to present a new tangle, PIZZA created by me (CZT09) through the Diva's challenge 352.

First the challenge

Hope you like it.

And now the tangle PIZZA

It all started with finding a curious looking stray fruit cluster under a tree at the beautiful campus of Initiatives of Change, Panchgani, Maharashtra in India where I am a regular faculty.

The red coloured seeds in the spotted greenish grey shell spoke to me to convert it into a tangle pattern!

My Zentangle student Munira in the city of Hyderabad suggested to call it 'PIZZA',  and Ekta seconded it, so here are the step outs.

And some examples...

Fighting Cancer

TEXAS 4000

I am happy to present here one of my recent works for a cause.

A3 size, took about 19 hours, Tranzending technic used.

This work is created to raise funds for the cause of Cancer during Texas 4000 event, a 72 days bicycle ride covering 4000 miles from Texas to Alaska by about 84 students of Texas University. Our niece, Chaitra Murthy is one among the 84, and she will raise the required funds by auctioning/offering limited copies of this art work in the US. The event takes off in the month of May 2018.
